Exercise and Health

11 Mar

This is the 3rd installment of Health and Chiropractic:

We are always told that exercise is good for you, but no one tells us which ones and how much.  When I was younger, as with most people, I could do any type of exercise and feel fine.  I would run, hit the weights, and my body would respond with my desired results.  But as I got a little older, I noticed this body of mine did not respond the way it used to.  My brain said let’s go, but the body said otherwise.  In my early 40’s I started boxing, which was a great cardio workout as well as building up my muscle tone.  I also like the physical aspect of getting in the ring, but the one thing I noticed was this body of mine could only take so much.  If I worked out more than 3 times per week, it was too much for my body and I became extremely sore.  So I settled in for workouts 3 times per week and enjoyed it.  But like many other people, life took over and I stopped the boxing.  I am turning 48 this year, and I decided I needed another intense workout program, so I started the Insanity program which requires you to work out daily for 6 days, rest on the 7th.  These workouts are generally 45 minutes long.  Well it did not take me long to realize that this body of mine would not recover like it used to.  I became very sore, and my body just did not respond like it used to.  What was happening, the mind said yes to the workout, but the body said no.  I thought to myself, is this what getting old feels like.  I am only 48!  I have decided that instead of the intense workouts, I am going to try yoga, stretching and start on a less intense workout.  So when thinking of a workout program for yourself, realize that your body changes as you age, and what you did years ago, might not be the best thing for you now.  So listen to your body, and you will greatly improve your health thru exercise.

Nutrition and Health

8 Mar

Earlier we talked about how chiropractic can influence good heath, but that is not the only way to obtain great health.  It may seem obvious, but food has a profound impact on our health.  The challenge is that food is not made to keep us healthy.  It is made for shelf-life and price control.  Most of our foods are empty calories, keeping us hungry to eat more.  Yes, these empty foods taste great ( french fries, fried foods, etc.) but they do nothing to help keep us healthy.  Instead they create a constant need to eat, resulting in the vast majority of our population to suffer from obesity, diabetes, heart problems and an overall problem of ill-health.  In our nutrition program we monitor our patients with a daily nutrition diary with our goal to not go from a poor diet to a totally sugar free, trans fat free diet immediately, but to gradually improve their diet.  I find that with this program, it is easier for patients to stay on a more improved diet.  With this improved eating habits and our whole food supplements, our patients are greatly improving their health and well-being.

What is Health?

28 Feb

There is a lot of talk about health care and Obamacare.  Most people do not understand what health really means.  Is being pain free considered to be healthy?  I have known many people who were not in pain but had cancer and by the time they had any symptoms the cancer was considered stage 4.  My uncle had a heart attack on the dance floor but had no symptoms before that.  Was he considered healthy before the heart attack?  Health is not determined by how little pain you have.

There are 4 aspects of health and in today’s blog I will talk about how chiropractic can help with the first part of being healthy.

I see many patients who have very little pain but when I do a posture exam and x-rays of their spine, it shows a severely deteriorated spine.  I know that even though they are not in a lot of pain, that they are experiencing nerve degenration, muscle atrophy and will develop future problems.  For me health is a combination of things.  First you must have a sound nervous system.  Our bodies communcates thru the nervous system and the spine protects the nerves that exit out of the spinal column.  Our brain communicates with the rest of the body thru these nerves and if the spine is out of alignment, then it will alter the communication to wherever these nerves go to.  So chiropractic is very good about taking care of these spinal problems by increasing the motion to the spine, re-education the spinal ligaments and surrounding muscles and correcting/improving the posture and structure of the spine to allow better communication from the brain to the rest of the body.  Through chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue work and specific exercises we have made dramatic improvements to peoples health and well-being.

Weight Reduction Program Day 4

16 Aug

Hello everyone.  It has been a couple of days since the disastrous Monday but things are looking up.  My wife has taken charge of the kitchen and is preparing the foods.  Honestly, I would have quit if it wasn’t for her, so thank you Lucinda.  I am eating juiced foods in the morning, with salad in the afternoon.  Lucinda made me a terrific carrot soup.  Now you wouldn’t think that this would be good, but she added avocado, ginger, salt and cayenne pepper and it was surprisingly very good.  I have not checked how much weight I have lost but I have already noticed my jeans are a little looser and my ring on my finger is looser.  I didn’t know that I could hold fat in my finger.lol.  I have been doing weights and I have noticed that I do not have the stamina I used to, so I did add a little protein to my diet.  We have a party on Sunday, so temptation will be great.  Wish me luck!

Talk to you next Monday with an update.

You Are Slowly Losing Your Rights! Read on…..

26 Jun

New legislation in Arizona is going to require you to see a medical doctor if you do not want to have your kids vaccinated.  Currently in Arizona, if you do not want your kids vaccinated, all you have to do is sign a personal waiver, and this will allow your kids to go to any public school, and legally gives you a waiver for no vaccinations.  As parents are becoming more aware of the dangers of vaccinations, the number of parents that have signed the waiver has doubled in the past ten years.  My guess is that pharmaceutical and medical doctors are losing a lot of money because of this.  Sue Brage, the executive director of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics states: ” the intent is to start curbing the number of people who get exemptions.”  The law being proposed is by Rep.  Cecil Ash, R-Mesa, who introduced this bill at the last minute, just minutes before the deadline for new bills.  This law would require a parent who does not want to have their child immunized, go to a medical doctor to have the waiver exemption.  The bill does not allow parents to go to a Chiropractic physician, a Naturopathic physician or any other physician who generally does not agree with the current allopathic model of health.  Now lets be realistic.  Does anyone honestly feel that they could get the right guidence for their concerns about vaccinations when the only doctor they are allowed to see is one who thinks that vaccinations should be mandatory and who directly benefits financially from this decision.

This is just the beginning of Arizonans losing their rights.  What next?  If we do not vaccinate our kids, do parents go to jail?  Do we get fined hundreds, thousands of dollars?

Look for future blogs on this and other health concerns.  If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 520-290-8892 or call our office to attend our chiropractic or nutritional workshops.

Your Body is Made to Heal

5 Jun

I am continually amazed at how the body has the unique ability to heal itself once we recognize the importance of good nutrition and whole food supplements.  Our bodies our made to heal with good foods, but since most of our food is robbed of the nutrients by heat processing, enzymes taken out for shelf life, and the removal of important vitamins and minerals.  Our bodies slowly lose their ability to restore normal function to its organs.  Once we change our diet and add “Whole Food Supplements” our bodies slowly regain their normal activity.

Here is a great example of the change that can be made.  Cliff Burnette stated that before seeing us he had lower back pain, severe congestion, and had been suffering with chronic diarrhea since 1996.  He also stated he had depression and insomnia.

Since being on our nutrition program for 7 weeks, he states:  “I have been seeing Dr. Aragon about 7 weeks now.  My congestion is pretty much gone.  Bowel movements are almost normal and I’m sleeping better and I am not depressed.”

This patient’s results are what we are seeing in our office by carefully monitoring their diet, finding out what organs are weak and giving them supplements to strengthen their bodies.

Patient Improvement on Nutrition!

29 May

This is a testimonial from SueAnn H. who provided this great letter to me on May 22, 2012.

When asked what she was like before she came to see us she states: “I was very depressed and wanted to sleep most of the time.  I was having problems with high blood pressure even after church which is supposed to be relaxing.  I am over weight which doesn’t help with any of these issues.”

“I started with the nutrition program on a Monday and went to see my general practioner on Friday for blood work.  I knew it wouldn’t be good.  The doctor told me when the test were back  in 2 weeks I would be put on another blood pressure medicine.”

“Just after a week on the nutrition program I had more energy and was up doing things around the house without a struggle.  I was also less depressed.  I continue to feel better, but the bonus was the following friday, when I got my Recheck at the G.P., I had lost 8 pounds and my blood pressure were so nice I didn’t need the extra medicine.”

It is so nice to see these amazing results that we are getting.  It is so simple.  So many people can be helped by what we are doing with our Designed Clinical Nutrition.  Call us at 520-290-8892 to attend our Nutrition Workshop.

High Protein diets may reduce Cancer and Tumor Risks!

24 May

This study was done in Philadelphia, PA.

Eating a low carbohydrate, high protein diet may reduce the risk of cancer and slow the growth of tumors already present, according to a study published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

The study was conducted in mice, but the scientist involved agree that the strong biological findings are definitive enough that an effect in humans can be considered.

“This shows that something as simple as a change in diet can have an impact on cancer risk,” said lead researcher Gerald Krystal, Ph.D., a distinguished scientist at the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre.  Cancer Research editor-in-chief George Prendergast, Ph.D., CEO of the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, agree.  “Many cancer patients are interested in making changes in areas that they can control, and this study definitely lends credence to the idea that a change in diet can be beneficial,” said Prendergast, who was not involved with the study.

Krystal and his colleagues implanted various strains of mice with human tumor cells or with mouse tumor cells and assigned them to one of two diets.  The first diet, a typical Western diet, contained about 55 percent carbohydrate, 23 percent protein and 22 percent fat.  The second, which is somewhat like a South Beach diet but higher in protein, contained 15 percent carbohydrate, 58 percent protein and 26 percent fat.  They found that the tumor cells grew consistently slower on the second diet.

As well, mice genetically predisposed to breast cancer were put on these two diets and almost half of them on the Western diet developed breast cancer within their first year of life while none on the low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet did.  Interestingly, only one on the Western diet reached a normal life span (approximately 2 years), with 70 percent of them dying from cancer while only 30 percent of those on the low carbohydrate diet developed cancer and more than half these mice reached or exceeded their normal life span.

Krystal and colleagues also tested the effect of an MTOR inhibitor, which inhibits cell growth, and a COX-2 inhibitor, which reduces inflammation, on tumor development, and found these agents had an additive effect in the mice fed the low carbohydrate, high protein diet.

When asked to speculate on the biological mechanism, Krystal said that tumor cells, unlike normal cells, need significantly more Glucose to grow and thrive.  Restricting carbohydrate intake can significantly limit blood glucose and insulin, a hormone that has been shown in many independent studies to promote tumor growth in both humans and mice.

Furthermore, a low carbohydrate, high protein diet has the potential to both boost the ability of the immune system to kill cancer cells and prevent obesity, which leads to chronic inflammation and cancer.

Nutrition Response Testing

21 May

Many people are asking me how I am getting incredible results from our designed clinical nutrition program, so I thought I would share what I do.  Nutrition Response Testing is a non-invasive system of analyzing the body to determine the underlying causes of ill or non-optimum health.

This clinically proven system may be quite different from any other healing practice that you may have experienced.  I will have some questions for you before and during the testing.  The actual procedure is simple and direct, with the body providing all of the information and feedback needed.  We use the extraordinary properties of the cells and tissues to bring about healing and health changes, exactly as Nature intended.

The body responds to the procedure reliably and consistently.  This feedback is so precise that it opens the door to a safe and lasting recovery, even in cases where everything else has failed.

What Am I  Testing For?

Through my analysis, I am testing your body’s neurological reflexes.  These reflexes are the body’s way of telling us what and how your nervous system is doing, as it is the nervous system’s responsiblility to regulate the body’s functions for each and every organ.  The testing includes organs, glands, joints, and muscles.  These reflexes are tested on the surface of the body and then the findings are analyzed.

Whole Food Supplements

14 May

Many of today’s foods have been stripped of their nutritional value.  Whole food multivitamins can supply these nutrients and form the foundation of your diet.  We use a company called Standard Process which uses whole food supplements which allows us to help people who have a diagnosis, are taking medication or has a disease.

Research now suggests that single vitamins, taken out of the food complex, may not be as effective in promoting health as eating the whole food.  Each whole food ingredient offers its nutrients, plus synergistic cofactors, to provide you with the strongest, natural, and most well-balanced nutritional supplement..  In a nut-shell, this means that taking the synthetically made vitamins at the stores just don’t cut-it.  The body can assimilate the whole food supplement more easily that the single vitamin.
